I haven't owned a television since 2003,
so no one is as surprised as I am that I am pitching TV shows!
However, it turns out I have had a fair amount of experience in TV production.
As
an unofficial spokesman for
Area 51, I have worked with
dozens of TV crews since 1993, both in front of
the camera and as a consultant behind it. (See my Media section for
the highlights.) Even if I don't watch,
I love the production side of the business.
In my Video section, you may detect that I am training myself
in television, both as an on-screen talent and a behind-the-scenes creator.
I have three TV series proposals in the works:
a travel show,
a paranormal comedy
and
a courthouse drama.
My travel series
is a highly developed formal proposal,
backed by extensive written documentation and a video trailer filmed on
three continents.
The other two projects are in the thinking stage but could become formal
proposals quickly.
To protect my creative work, I can't publicly divulge many details about these shows.
(When you pitch a show, there are protocols you have
to follow, and I don't want to jeopardize them by revealing too much in public.)
However, I can tell you the general parameters of each show.
What all of these shows have in common is they draw heavily on
the current "reality" genre—loosely scripted, filmed with hand-held cameras and relatively cheap to produce.
I have been inspired by director Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity), who I had
the privilege of working with in 2009.
I believe the "mock reality"
techniques he has pioneered can be applied to the three
areas I am an expert in:
travel, Area 51 and Family Court.
The Reality Travel Show: “Operation Weekend”
My travel series is preferably a one-hour show, intended for an outlet
like the Travel Channel or National Geographic.
It is based on my background as
an "extreme traveler" (photos) and my experience working with
TV crews at Area 51. (See my photos of
UFO Hunters,
SyFy and
MysteryQuest.)
This is a fully developed proposal that I have been working on since 2010.
The following components are available to qualified recipients:
My half-hour comedy is a mock reality show based on my experiences with the
media at Area 51.
(See
UFO Hunters,
SyFy and
MysteryQuest.)
What Reno 911 did for cop shows, "Interceptors" will do for paranormal
shows like Ghost Hunters and UFO Hunters.
A group of aviation watchers is thrilled to
get their own reality TV
show investigating UFO claims,
but things start to go bad quickly, especially when the close-knit group is
infiltrated by an "alien" visitor.
1-sheet pitch now available.
Written proposal is in the works
The Courthouse Drama: “Juvenile Justice”
"Juvenile Justice" is an hour-long hyper-realistic
drama is set in Family Court in Las Vegas
(my old stomping grounds).
Filmed like a documentary, it follows the lawyers, probation officers and
clients involved in juvenile criminal cases.
Although the story is fiction, it is presented like a reality show and is produced on
a much smaller budget than most TV dramas.
